Marbury

Marbury consists of a pretty cluster of half-timbered cottages around its 13th century St Michael and All Angels' church above Big Mere. The church contains a rare medieval wooden pulpit - the second oldest in Cheshire (the oldest is at Mellor).


The tree on the green by the 17th century Swan Inn was planted in 1814 to celebrate Wellington's victory over Soult during the Peninsular Wars, and is still growing strongly despite having been damaged by lightening. See the map below
